While visiting some of Ryn's family for thanksgiving, we got time to check out New York's Guggenheim Museum.

"RUSSIA!" was the current exhibition, with various Russian works chronologically arranged on the spiraling assent up the uniquely shaped building. And impressive it was too - especially the early 20th century art around the time of the revolution. Their permanent collection, hosted in side galleries off the main spiral, was even better featuring many 20th century big hitters including Picasso, Chagall, Cézanne, and an entire room devoted to their Kandinsky collection.

Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the building itself is an impressive work of art. The spiral, gentle curves etc are beautiful. But.. it's all a bit form over function. The paths of visitors constantly ill considered, heading right into dead end walls and an incredibly narrow entrance/exit.

If anyone is considering a trip to the big apple I recommend it (although there's more to see at the Museum of Modern Art if you only have time for one).
