Yin Yu Tang

I had the pleasure of visiting the Peabody Essex Museum this weekend, America’s oldest continually running museum. The highlight was undoubtedly a Chinese merchants house, Yin Yu Tang. It was transported piece-by-piece from a Village in southeastern China and reassembled in the New England museum. 2735 wooden components, 972 stones and over 60,000 bricks and tiles! Walking around the house, and learning about the family life and architectural features was stimulating and thought provoking.
