Houston - Texas

Ryn's been on a field mission in Houston for the last two weeks. Last Friday I flew down and spent the weekend with her, and got my first taste of Texas. I can see why they say "everything's bigger in Texas" now! We got to a Rodeo, ate Tex Mex and southern BBQ food, and generally did the Texas thing.

Ryn was there as part of a team of scientists sending two NASA aircraft into the sky's above and around Mexico City. Their goal is to better understand how a mega-city like Mexico City affects the global environment. I got a quick tour of one of the planes (the one in the photo above). It's a converted passenger jet with seats ripped out and mindbogglingly impressive looking instruments in their place. They had bulky machinery shooting friken laser beams up & down to collect big vertical slices of data! All very impressive.

Battleship Texas...

An old WWI & WWII dreadnought refurbished for tours, and docked on the coast.
